Digital estate planning isn’t one step — it needs three layers to actually work.
Layer 1: The platform itself
Apple, Google, Meta, and other services let you name a Legacy Contact or choose who can access your data.
Layer 2: Your legal documents
Your Power of Attorney and your Will need explicit digital-asset authority. Otherwise your family has no legal right to your accounts.
Layer 3: Practical access
A password manager or equivalent system your family can actually open. Without this, none of the planning works in real life.
These three layers work together. If even one is missing, your digital estate plan breaks down.
